Two Years of All But Drams

It’s been 730 days since I hit post on the first set of articles for this little site. Wow!

Running this site is fun, and I don’t just mean when I get to drink at festivals. Meeting people, learning about their craft, their product and their challenges is always exciting. However, what’s been most rewarding is both brands and enthusiasts telling me they decided to attend a festival because of a review I wrote.

Whilst All But Drams has been an incredible success in terms of reach and usefulness for whisky fans (and brands too), it is not a profit making exercise and likely never will be.

As a marketer in my day job I’ve crunched the numbers of the traffic level needed to cover website and travel expenses with ad revenue and it’s far above the amount of whisky enthusiasts there are in the UK.  There’s a reason why this niche was wide open when I arrived, and why reviewing bottles is so much more popular for creators and media outlets than looking at bars and festivals.

To help keep All But Drams independent, and entirely free of ads or sponsorship, I’ve turned on donations at Buy Me A Coffee. If you want to contribute to hosting costs, travel to festivals, or just to show your support for all this site represents then that would be massively appreciated.

Thank you to all the enthusiasts, distillers, event organisers, bartenders, brand ambassadors and bottlers who have made this journey so much fun. Thank you to my Dad who reads this site with impeccable diligence. And the final biggest thank you to my wife who has been so endlessly supportive of all my spirits buying and festival travelling.

Here’s to another year of All But Drams!
